Eugenol is an essential oil found in large concentrations in cloves, but also in nutmeg, cinnamon, basil and functional botanicals. It has a notably spicy aroma and flavor. It has many medicinal benefits, and has been used as medicine in many non-Western countries for centuries. The medicinal benefits of eugenol include being both antiseptic and anti-inflammatory, and it is commonly used in dentistry. Eugenol has also been studied for its anti-fungal and antibacterial, and also inhibits the accumulation of fat in red blood cells.
